Fast handover for Bluetooth network access systems

When Bluetooth is used as an interface between mobile devices and network systems, the devices must maintain their connections by handovers between access points. However, handover is not defined by the standard Bluetooth specification. Several handover methods have been proposed, but they take a few seconds for reconnection because of relatively complex inquiry and paging procedures. A handover method is proposed that reduces the handover time by eliminating the inquiry procedure and using location information of access points and sharing Bluetooth device addresses of mobile devices. The experiments show that the average handover time is several hundred milliseconds, about ten times faster than with methods involving inquiry procedures.
